The invention relates to an electric scooter (1) comprising a footboard (2), at the rear of which is located a rear wheel (35) connected to an electric motor (36), via which motor said wheel can be driven, wherein: - a replaceable battery (4) is provided which can be electrically connected to the electric motor (36); - the footboard (2) comprises a circumferential frame which delimits a battery compartment (23) that accommodates the battery (4); - the battery (4) comprises a battery housing (41) which closes the battery compartment (23), the upper face of which housing forms the footboard surface of the footboard (2); and - the battery housing (41) comprises closing means which interact with a closing mechanism, located on the frame, via which the battery (4) is releasably connected to the frame. The invention also relates to a battery for use in such a scooter.
