The invention relates to a locking device (1) for a plug-in connection, comprising: - a connector (3), comprising a housing (7) for connection to a mating connector; - an actuator (9) and a locking element (11), the actuator (9) being disposed on the housing (7) and being adapted to move the locking element (11) into a function testing position in a region of the housing (7), an end region (15) of the locking element (11) lying against a stop surface (17) of the housing (7) when the locking element is in the function testing position; and - an analytical means (19), which is adapted to detect an actual position of the locking element (11) and to compare the actual position of the locking element with an intended position of the function testing position, in order to detect a deviation from the intended position. The invention further relates to a charging connection for an electric vehicle and to a method for checking the function of a locking device (1).
