The power cable assembly (100) comprising a power cable core (170) comprising an electrical conductor (130) an electrical conductor (130) extending longitudinally,, a plurality of longitudinally extending cooling pipes (190), and a thermal interface material, TIM, (180) surrounding the cooling pipes (190) and electrical conductor (130). The TIM (180) is configured to thermally couple an external surface (193) of the thermally conductive wall (197) of each cooling pipe (190) with an external surface of the insulating material (131) of the electrical conductor (130) such that the heat generated at the electrical conductor (130) is transferred, via the external surface (193) of the cooling pipes (190) over a heat transfer region, to the coolant medium (125) circulating in the interior channel (120).
