A crawler drive unit (1) relating to one aspect of the present invention includes a speed reduction mechanism (4) provided in a running unit (102) for causing a vehicle body (101) to run, where the speed reduction mechanism (4) is configured to transmit a driving force to a crawler provided on the running unit (102), a transmission mechanism (3) for transmitting the driving force to the speed reduction mechanism (4), and an electric motor (2) for applying a rotational force to the transmission mechanism (3). A motor shaft (7) of the electric motor (2) is positioned higher than a rotational axis (Jn) of an input shaft (16) of the speed reduction mechanism (4).
