The invention relates to a method for operating an electrically driven or electrically drivable motor vehicle (2), and the motor vehicle (2) has a current collector (22) for making contact with an overhead conductor (16) running above a roadway (18); a current collector (22) which is in contact connection with the overhead conductor (16) during overhead conductor operation, wherein during overhead conductor operation, in which the current collector (22) is in contact with the overhead conductor (16), switching between converter operation (52) and bypass operation (54) is carried out as a function of the vehicle speed (vVeh) and the calculated recovery potential; in the converter operation, electrical energy is conducted through a DC voltage converter (36) connected between the current collector (22) and the drive train (14); in the bypass operation, electrical energy is conducted through a bypass line (38) connected in parallel to the DC voltage converter (36).
