A portable charging device for electric vehicles that comprises an energy storage system having battery racks, connectors connectable to electric vehicles, bidirectional DC/DC converters and a control module. Each bidirectional DC/DC converter is connected to the battery racks, and to the power source or to one of the connectors. The bidirectional DC/DC converters adapt the power source output voltage to the battery racks input voltage and the battery racks output voltage to the electric vehicle input voltage. The control module is communicatively coupled to the energy storage system, the connectors and the bidirectional DC/DC converters. The control module monitors the status of the battery racks and the power charging requirements of the electric vehicle, selects the bidirectional DC/DC converters to feed the connectors and regulates the power delivered by the selected bidirectional DC/DC converters based on the power charging requirements of the electric vehicle.
