Described is an energy management system (10) for an aircraft (1), wherein the energy management system (10) comprises a fuel cell (100) configured to convert chemical energy into electric energy, at least one energy source (110) configured to provide electric energy, at least one electrical load (130, 140, 150), an electric bus (20) electrically coupled to the fuel cell (100), the at least one energy source (110), and the at least one electrical load (130, 140, 150), and a controller (30) configured to control the at least one electrical load (130, 140, 150) in such a manner that a minimum load to the fuel cell (100) is ensured. Furthermore, an aircraft comprises such energy management system. A method for managing energy in a system comprises electrically coupling (200) a fuel cell (100), at least one energy source (110), and at least one electrical load (130, 140, 150) by an electric bus (20), and controlling (210) at least one electrical load (130, 140, 150) in such a manner that a minimum load to the fuel cell (100) is ensured.
