The aim of the invention is to ensure the adherence to deceleration limit values even in the event of a malfunction with a power failure. This aim is achieved by means of a braking system (1) for a rail vehicle. The braking system has at least one brake (3) for producing a deceleration of the rail vehicle and at least one control unit (2) for controlling the at least one brake, the at least one brake being associated with the control unit (2). The control unit (2) has a memory device, which is designed to robustly store a brake-specific influencing variable as a variable influencing the deceleration, and the control unit (2) is designed to control the at least one associated brake (3) on the basis of the brake-specific influencing variable.
