A hybrid propulsion system (100) can include an electric motor (101) configured to convert electrical energy into motion, a battery (103) configured to store electrical energy and operatively connected to the electric motor to provide a battery output to the electric motor and a generator (105) configured to convert non-electrical energy into electrical energy, the generator operatively connected to the electric motor to provide a generator output to the motor simultaneously with the battery output. The system can include a controller (107) operatively connected to the generator and configured to control the generator output of the generator as a function one or more of a state of the battery or the battery output.
