A method of monitoring a power grid (10) of an electric railway system, wherein the electric railway system comprises a plurality of electric rail vehicles (14), wherein the method comprises the following steps: collecting electric vehicle data (48) acquired by electric rail vehicles (14), wherein the electric vehicle data (48) is based on measurements in the electric rail vehicle (14) and comprises at least one property of the power grid (10) at the location of the electric rail vehicle (14), in particular a voltage of the power grid (10) and/or a frequency of the power grid (10) and/or an active and/or reactive power of the electric rail vehicle (14); determining a location of the electric rail vehicles (14) in the power grid (10); localizing the electric vehicle data (48) such that the electric vehicle data (48) is associated with locations, where the electric vehicle data (48) has been acquired; and determining at least one section (11, 12) of the power grid (10) where the at least one property of the power grid (10) deviates from a given power grid standard property more than a given threshold.
