The invention relates to a method for operating a drive system (10) according to the invention, wherein the battery currents (IB) flowing in the connected battery banks (12) are measured separately and each of which is compared with a threshold assigned to the battery bank (12), and the battery bank (12) is separately switched off if the battery current (IB) flowing in the battery bank (12) exceeds the assigned threshold.
