A shock-absorbing tongue assembly (130) for coupling a rotary cutter (120) with a work vehicle (110) includes a coupler (132) configured to couple to the work vehicle (110), and a linkage mechanism having a proximal end (270, 272, 274, 276) at the rotary cutter (120) and a distal end (306, 308, 310, 312) at the coupler (132). The linkage mechanism includes a suspension element (340, 342) configured to dampen energy transferred between the rotary cutter (120) and the work vehicle (110), a primary linkage mechanism (210, 212) extending from the rotary cutter (120), and a secondary linkage mechanism (282, 284) extending between the primary linkage mechanism (210, 212) and the coupler (132). The secondary linkage mechanism (282, 284) is configured to rotate about the primary linkage mechanism (210, 212) while maintaining the coupler (132) in a level condition.
