The invention relates to an open-loop/closed-loop brake controller (S1, S2) for a rail vehicle, which has a car body (20), to which at least one bogie (D) is fastened for movement about at least one degree of freedom, wherein the open-loop/closed-loop brake controller (S1, S2) has a multi-part design, being divided into at least one internal open-loop/closed-loop brake controller (S1), which is arranged within or on the car body (20), and at least one external open-loop/closed-loop brake controller (S2), which is arranged within or on the bogie (D), wherein the external open-loop/closed-loop brake controller (S2) is designed to communicate with sensors (30) arranged on the bogie (D) and to (preliminarily) process and/or collect data determined by the sensors (30) in order to forward said data to the internal open-loop/closed-loop brake controller (S1) and/or a diagnostic unit.
