The invention relates to a method for operating a hybrid drive train of a motor vehicle. The method comprises the following steps: preparing a sample; the first driving unit provides first driving power and transmits the first driving power to the output device through the first friction clutch and the first sub-transmission; wherein a first internal combustion engine gear is shifted in the firstsub-transmission, while a second drive unit provides a second drive power to the output via the second sub-transmission, the second friction clutch is disengaged and a first motor gear lower than thefirst internal combustion engine gear is shifted in the second sub-transmission; determining whether to shift from a first motor gear to a higher second motor gear in a second sub-transmission, if yes, the first sub-transmission shifts from the first internal combustion engine gear to a second internal combustion engine gear higher than the first internal combustion engine gear; and the driving power of the second driving unit is transmitted to the output device through the second friction clutch, the first friction clutch and the first sub-transmission, and the second sub-transmission is switched to a second motor gear.
