A rope guide apparatus (101) to assist with mooring a vessel (103) comprises an elongate pole (106) and a length of rope (107). The length of rope (107) is slidably retained by the elongate pole (106) at a first point of retention (301, 508, 514) adjacent a first end (301) of the pole (106). The rope (107) extends from the first point of retention (301, 508, 514) towards a second end (302) of the pole (106) where it is slidably retained by the pole (106) at a second point of retention (302, 504, 515) adjacent the second end (302). The rope (107) extends from the second end (302) of the pole (106) back towards the first end (301) and is slidably retained at a third point of retention (306, 509) either adjacent the first end (301) or part way between the first (301) and second (302) ends of the pole (106), with the rope (107) extending freely from the pole (106). This apparatus (101) allows easier one-person (102) mooring of a vessel (103) by looping the rope over a bollard (104) and avoids the need for the individual to lean out of a vessel when attempting to moor at a distance.
