The invention relates to a system (1) for controlling a light distribution of a headlight unit (2) of a motor vehicle, comprising a headlight unit (2) having a pixelated light system (3, 3'), an environment detection unit (4) arranged in a predeterminable position relative to the headlight unit (2), with which an environment of the motor vehicle can be detected, an evaluation unit (5) which is communicatively connected to the environment detection unit (4), and with which data of the environment detection unit (4) can be evaluated at least in terms of where objects in the detected environment of the motor vehicle are positioned relative to the environment detection unit (4) or to the headlight unit (2), what contour the objects have and to which category the objects belong, a control unit (6) which is communicatively connected to the evaluation unit (5) and which is configured to control the light spread in the pixelated light system, based on data transferred from the evaluation unit (5) to the control unit (6), wherein, for each relevant object detected in the environment of the motor vehicle, with respect to which a dimming of the light or illumination by light is required or desired, the evaluation unit (5) is configured to transfer data relating to the contour of the object, the position of the object relative to the environment detection unit (4) or to the headlight unit (2), and a dimming value for the object to the control unit (6).
