An inert gas generating system (10) includes an air source (12) configured to provide an air stream that comprises at least one of ram air, external air, conditioned air, or compressed air. An electrochemical gas separator (16) is configured to receive the air stream and to produce an oxygen-depleted air stream. A contained volume (30) is configured to receive the oxygen-depleted air stream.
