The drive unit includes a crank shaft 14 rotatable by a human driving force, a resultant-force transmission member 15 rotatable by the resultant driving force of a human driving force and an auxiliary driving force, an output wheel member 16 provided on the resultant-force transmission member 15, and a speed change mechanism 17 that changes the rotation speed of the resultant-force transmission member 15. The crank shaft 14 and the resultant-force transmission member 15 are coaxial with each other. The speed change mechanism 17 has a plurality of selectable gears with different gear ratios. The drive unit further includes a detection unit that detects selected one of the gears.
