A rotary-type switch (100) for controlling vehicle lighting is provided. The rotary-type switch (100) may include a housing portion (110) that includes multiple positions (112, 114, 116, 118) that respectively correspond to multiple operation modes (OFF, TAIL, HEAD, AUTO) and a rotary dial being configured to rotate relative to the housing portion (110) to select an operation mode of the rotary-type switch (100) based on a position identified by a selection indicator (130). A controller (200) is configured to control an operation mode of the rotary-type switch (100) based on a vehicular power state and when the vehicular power state is OFF, regardless of the position of the selection indicator (130) corresponding to the selected operation mode on either the housing portion (110) or the rotary dial, the controller (200) controls the rotary-type switch (100) to automatically set the operation mode to that defined by an initial-operation position (118) corresponding to a predetermined initial-operation mode (AUTO).
