A rubber composition for use in tire tread is disclosed. The rubber composition comprises, based on parts by weight per 100 parts by weight elastomer (phr): (A) 100 phr of conjugated diene-based elastomers, exclusive of elastomers containing styrene, comprising; (1) 25 to 75 phr of a first polybutadiene rubber having a Tg in a range of from -40°C to -10°C and an isomeric vinyl 1,2-content in a range of from 70 to 85 percent, (2) 75 to 25 phr of a second polybutadiene rubber having a Tg in a range of from -108°C to -90°C and an isomeric vinyl 1,2-content in a range of from 0 to 15 percent, provided that the ratio of said first to said second polybutadiene is at least 1/1; (B) 80 to 200 phr of a rubber reinforcing filler comprising a combination of silica and carbon black in a ratio of silica to carbon black of at least 5/1 or at least 9/1; and (C) 10 to 60 phr of a resin selected from at least one of styrene-alphamethylstyrene resin, coumarone-indene resin, petroleum hydrocarbon resin, terpene polymer, terpene phenol resin and rosin derived resins and copolymers, wherein this resin has a softening point (ASTM E28) in a range of from 60°C to 150°C.
