A process for manufacturing a bicycle wheel component, comprising the steps of providing a bicycle wheel component having at least one braking area (42, 44) configured to cooperate with a braking body, said braking area being made by molding of composite material comprising structural fibers (202, 204) incorporated in a polymeric material (200), and carrying out post-molding machining of at least one region of said at least one braking area (42, 44), comprising the steps of removing only polymeric material (200), without removal of the structural fiber (202, 204), from the entire region so that the structural fiber (202, 204) outcrops at least in part from the polymeric material (200), and removing the structural fiber (202, 204) and possibly the polymeric material (200) according to at least one groove (210, 212) within the region. A bicycle wheel component having at least one braking area (42, 44) made of composite material, wherein in at least one region of the braking area (42, 44), the structural fiber (202, 204) outcrops at least in part from the polymeric material (200), and said at least one region comprises at least one groove (210, 212) through the structural fiber (202, 204) and possibly the polymeric material (200) of the composite material.
