A bicycle with chain drive comprises a chain tensioner (100) engaging a lower chain part, for keeping the lower chain part tensioned. The chain tensioner (100) comprises a carrier (130), as well as two guide wheels (110, 120) mounted rotatably to the carrier. The rotation axes of the carrier and of the guide wheels are substantially perpendicular to the chain plane defined by the chain. The lower chain part, coming from the pedals, engages the lower side of a front one of said guide wheels, runs over the upper side of the rear one of said guide wheels, and then engages the lower side of the chain wheel of the rear wheel. The carrier is provided with bias means that exert a bias force on the carrier for moving the rear one of said guide wheels upwards. The chain tensioner is mounted in the space between the rear chain wheel en the lying rear fork.
