An adaptive inertial particle separation system (102) may include an active configuration and a passive configuration. The system (102) may comprise an air-intake duct (200, 300) including an outer wall (204) spaced apart from a central axis (CL), an inner wall (206) located between the outer wall (204) and the engine rotation axis (CL), an intake passage (210) defined in part by the inner wall (206) and the outer wall (204), and a splitter (208) located between the outer wall (204) and the inner wall (206). The system (102) may further include a sensor (202, 203) operatively connected to the air-intake duct (200, 300) and operative to initiate at least one of the active configuration and passive configuration.
