A refrigeration unit and a method of regulating a temperature of a compartment (102) of an aircraft (100) is described. The refrigeration unit (108) includes an evaporator (116) receptive of an airflow (114) and a refrigerant and operatively arranged to transfer heat from the airflow (114) to the refrigerant in order to cool the airflow (114) as the airflow (114) travels from an inlet (118) at an inlet side (120) of the evaporator (116) to an outlet (122) at an outlet side (124) of the evaporator (116). The outlet (122) is in fluid communication with a compartment (102) of the aircraft (100). A heater (138) is positioned at the inlet side (120) of the evaporator (116) and heats the airflow (114) before the airflow (114) passes through the outlet (122) of the evaporator (116). A compressor (126) receives the refrigerant from the output (125) of the evaporator (116) and pressurizes the refrigerant. A condenser (128) receives the refrigerant from the compressor (118) and condenses the refrigerant to liquid phase.
