Adaptive method for the front lighting of a carrier vehicle (10) creating an illuminated zone (30) in front of the carrier vehicle (10) and comprising the steps involving: - detecting the presence of a target vehicle (20) being followed and situated in front of said carrier vehicle (10); - measuring an inter-vehicle distance separating said carrier vehicle (10) from the target vehicle (20) and/or calculating an inter-vehicle time between the two vehicles; - comparing the inter-vehicle distance and/or inter-vehicle time values against predetermined values for not dazzling the target vehicle (12); - adapting the front lighting according to the inter-vehicle distance and/or to the inter-vehicle time by creating within the illuminated zone (30) a dark window (40) on the target vehicle (20) if the inter-vehicle distance and/or inter-vehicle time values are below the predetermined values for not dazzling; characterized in that the step of adapting the lighting also involves a step of regulating the frontal lighting according to the inter-vehicle distance and/or to the inter-vehicle time.
