The method involves measuring volume of fuel present in a fuel tank by a gauge e.g. capacitive gauge, and estimating a deformation of the fuel tank based on the measurement of the fuel volume by using a sensor e.g. pressure sensor, where the sensor is directly associated to the fuel tank. The volume measured by the gauge is corrected according to the deformation of the fuel tank, where the fuel tank is made of high-density polyethylene and includes a barrier layer made of ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer.
