A transportation system having : at least one transportation unit (3) movable along a path (P); a magnetic field generating device (2) configured to generate a magnetic field (B) along the path (P); and a propulsion device (5) housed on the transportation unit (3) and cooperating with the magnetic field (B) to move the transportation unit (3) along the path (P). The propulsion device (5) has a magnetic interaction assembly (15) housed on the transportation unit (3) to interact with the magnetic field (B) of the magnetic field generating device (2). And the magnetic field generating device (2) has at least a first segment (9a) and a second segment (9b) arranged successively along the path (P) and separated by an interruption region (10) of a length (L) shorter than the distance (D1) between the front end and the rear end of the magnetic interaction assembly (15).
