An airbag module for a motor vehicle is described. Said airbag module consists of a housing (5), which surrounds a receiving space (A) and has a covering section (12) with a door (14) closing an outlet opening (D), and a further section (20), an airbag arranged within the receiving space (A) and an inflator, which is arranged within the housing, for filling the airbag. The housing (5) is designed as a single-part plastics housing and has an installation opening (M) through which at least the airbag is placed into the receiving space (A) during assembly and which is closed after assembly is finished. For further efficiency, the covering section is directly adjacent to the passenger compartment and the inflator is not connected rigidly to the housing so that the covering section can be exactly positioned.
