The method involves adjusting a load-free rolling state of a vehicle (1), and determining expected time duration of the load-free rolling state. A switching state of an auxiliary device (12) is adjusted with respect to the determined expected time duration. The determined expected time duration of the load-free rolling state is compared with specified threshold value, and based on comparison it is determined, whether the switching state of the auxiliary device is changed or not. An independent claim is included for a control device for controlling or regulating vehicle systems, particularly a distance control process or speed control process.
