The method involves starting an engine of a motorcycle, and allowing an identification-encoder to stay in data communication with a control system using an authentication. An electromechanical steering lock is brought into a desired position, after a positive authentication in an operating process. An actuator element is allowed to stay in signal connection to the control system, where the actuator element is accessible to a user. The operating process is started only after the positive authentication via a deliberate activation of the actuator element occurring after the authentication. An independent claim is also included for an arrangement for controlling a steering lock.
