The device has a hydropneumatic element (1) comprising a heat exchanger (1i) that is arranged such that the exchanger influences temperature of gases in a gas chamber (1h). The heat exchanger is connected with a cooling device (21) by a cooling circuit (22), and the hydropneumatic element comprises the gas chamber, an oil chamber (1c) and a throttle (1f). The gas chamber and/or the oil chamber and/or the throttle are connected with the heat exchanger. A temperature sensor detects temperature of the gases in the gas chamber and/or temperature of a coolant in the circuit. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for controlling a hydropneumatic spring-damping device (2) a vehicle comprising an engine cooling system.
