The system has at least two brake circuits each with an associated brake circuit control, and a central control appliance (EBS-ECU) for all circuits. Failure of the central control or recognition of an error, causes one of the brake circuit controls to operate one of the brake circuits (5), independent of the central control. The central control also executes control of at least one other brake circuit. Devices to generate braking pressure, which are subordinate to the central control resp. the autonomous brake circuit, are formed as independent pressure regulation modules. Each brake circuit has its own power supply (3,4), each with a battery. All batteries are monitored by an electronic monitoring device (2).
