The invention relates to an operating element (1) having a carrier element (10) and a luminescent film (20) in which or on which at least two optoelectronic components (25) for generating light in a first main emission direction (28) are located. A diffuser layer (40, 51) is located downstream of the at least two optoelectronic components with regard to the first main emission direction (28). Furthermore, a structured symbol element (50, 51) is provided which is not located upstream of the diffuser layer with regard to the first main emission direction (28) and is designed to reproduce at least one symbol during operation of the at least two optoelectronic components and in a plan view of the diffuser layer (40) in the first main emission direction. A touch-sensitive sensor (60) is designed to detect contact exerted in the first main emission direction (28) and to generate an electrical signal therefrom. A reflective layer is arranged on the opposite side of the luminescent film (20) with respect to the symbol element (50, 51) and is designed to reflect light scattered counter to the main emission direction in the main emission direction.
