The invention relates to a drive system (5) for a movable roof part (2) of a roof system of a motor vehicle. Such a drive system comprises a support strip (6) which can be rigidly connected to the movable roof part (2), a control mechanism for actuating a front part of the support strip (6), a rear extension mechanism (12) which is operatively connected to the support strip at a distance behind the front part of the support strip, and a guide rail assembly (7) in which the control mechanism and the rear extension mechanism can be moved. According to the invention, at least two control cams (17, 18) are arranged on the front part of the support strip (6) in a fixed manner, said control cams being mutually spaced in the longitudinal direction of the support strip (6), and each control cam is operatively connected to a slotted gate (24, 25) provided on a control slide (10) which can be moved along the guide rail assembly (7), wherein the at least two control cams (17, 18) protrude transversely from the support strip towards the same side.
