An adhesive may include at least one mesoscale or microscale resonator embedded within a material constituting at least a portion of the adhesive. The at least one mesoscale or microscale resonator may be formed from a composite material. In addition, the at least one mesoscale or microscale resonator may include a plurality of first carbon particles configured to resonate uniquely in response to an electromagnetic acoustic pulse based at least in part on a concentration level of the first carbon particles within the at least one mesoscale or microscale resonator.
