The invention provides a backward collision early warning method and system based on roadside perception. The method comprises the steps that vehicle data about the vehicle speed, the position and the course angle of a target vehicle are received from the target vehicle; roadside sensing data about the surrounding environment of the target vehicle are collected and generated in real time, wherein the roadside sensing data comprise the vehicle speed, the position and the course angle of a vehicle behind the target vehicle; determining an estimated collision time of the target vehicle and a vehicle behind the target vehicle based on the roadside sensing data and the vehicle data; a backward collision risk level is evaluated based on the determined estimated collision time, and the shorter the estimated collision time is, the higher the backward collision risk level is; and transmitting a corresponding backward collision early warning signal and an anti-collision measure to the target vehicle based on the backward collision risk level.
