The invention relates to a fatigue early warning system and method based on a steering wheel, and the method comprises the following steps: carrying out the real-time fatigue detection of a driver based on a heart rate detection module disposed on the steering wheel, obtaining a plurality of face images of the driver in a preset time period, inputting the obtained images into an eye opening and closing state evaluation model, and obtaining a fatigue detection result, and reminding a target object according to the fatigue detection result. According to the invention, an eye opening and closing state evaluation model is combined with heart rate detection, so that a comprehensive fatigue early warning system can be provided for a driver. Through real-time monitoring and accurate algorithm analysis, early warning can be given out in time when a driver is in a fatigue state, accuracy of clearance height detection and driving safety are ensured, and accidents are prevented.
