Systems and methods for tire monitor auto-positioning are disclosed. A tire pressure monitoring system generates an output signal to communicate with a tire monitor mounted on a tire of a vehicle. A time associated with the return signal in response to the output signal is used to determine a distance of the tire monitor and/or an angular displacement of the tire monitor. Using these techniques, a monitor may be positioned without requiring vehicle operation. In other examples, accelerometers and/or contact surface measurements may be used, for example, to automatically position a tire monitor while the vehicle is in operation.
