A vehicle control system for evading a steering maneuver includes: a forward object detector configured to detect an object in a path of travel of a vehicle; a steering wheel configured to control a steering direction of the vehicle; a vehicle user interface configured to display a visual indication to a driver and generate audio for the driver; and a vehicle control module configured to identify an object in a path of travel of the vehicle via the forward object detector, determine an estimated collision time with the object, and, in response to the estimated collision time being less than a specified time threshold, control the vehicle in response to the estimated collision time being less than the specified time threshold. At least one of the following is performed: providing a driver with a recommended visual indication of evading a steering maneuver via a vehicle user interface; generating a recommended audio reminder for avoiding the steering operation; a steering torque is applied to the steering wheel to indicate the recommended evasive steering maneuver.
