In at least one embodiment, a drive device (1) for an electric bicycle (100) has a first housing element (41) and a second housing element (42) connected thereto. The drive device has a spacer element (5), a shaft (3) and a reversing gear (2) for coupling to the electric motor on the one hand and to the shaft on the other hand in such a way that a torque can be transmitted from the electric motor to the shaft via the reversing gear. The reversing gear has a first gear element (21) which can be rotated about a first axis (A1) and a second gear element (22) which is coupled thereto and which can be rotated about a second axis (A2) running at an angle to the first axis. The spacer element is arranged between two housing surfaces (410, 420) of the two housing elements facing each other in order to predetermine a minimum distance between the two housing surfaces. The transmission elements are coupled to the housing element such that a maximum gap between the two transmission elements is set by a predetermined minimum distance between the housing surfaces.
