An airbag deployment system includes a memory configured to store a default weight/pressure threshold, a weight/pressure sensor configured to detect weight/pressure on a surface of a vehicle seat, a remote sensor for detecting a presence of a child restraint seat mounted on the vehicle seat, a remote sensor may detect the presence or absence of a child restraint seat on a vehicle seat having at least one focus detection zone, where the child restraint seat has a different visual characteristic for a portion of the focus detection zone when compared to the vehicle seat and an occupant, where the child restraint seat is visible to a portion of the focus detection zone based on detecting or not detecting the child restraint seat. At least one of the weight/pressure threshold and the weight/pressure measured on the vehicle seat is compensated for.
