An electro-hydraulic actuator for a brake system, comprising: a housing (1) defining an inner space (10), the housing having a first opening (11) and a second opening (12); a master brake cylinder (2) positioned in the first opening, said master brake cylinder being attached at the housing so as to seal the first opening in a fluid-tight manner; an electric motor (4) arranged at the housing; the invention relates to a brake device (1) comprising a housing (2), a master brake cylinder (3) accommodated in the interior of the housing, and a transmission (3) which is movably coupled to the master brake cylinder, the transmission having a transmission intermediate part which can be moved along a longitudinal axis (L1) and which divides the housing relative to the longitudinal axis into a first housing region (13) and a second housing region (14), a master brake cylinder is arranged in the first housing region, and the second housing region faces the second opening. The actuator further comprises an equalization diaphragm which closes the second opening in a fluid-tight manner, said equalization diaphragm being elastically deformable in order to reduce a pressure difference between the first housing region and the second housing region upon axial displacement of the transmission intermediate part.
