The invention discloses an area congestion degree determination method and device, and the method comprises the steps: determining the driving speed corresponding to each first line according to the distance corresponding to at least two first lines in a target area; then, calculating a first coefficient, a second coefficient and a third coefficient according to the driving speed corresponding to each first route; wherein the first coefficient represents the vehicle running speed in the target area, the second coefficient represents the vehicle running delay in the target area, and the third coefficient represents the vehicle running speed difference between the at least two first routes; finally, the congestion coefficient of the target area is calculated according to the first coefficient, the second coefficient and the third coefficient, and the congestion coefficient indicates the congestion degree of the target area. Therefore, the congestion degree of the region is comprehensively calculated, the accuracy of calculating the congestion degree of the region is ensured, and the authenticity of reflecting the traffic congestion condition in the region is improved.
