The invention relates to the technical field of vehicle control, in particular to a range extender starting control method and device, and the method comprises the steps: obtaining the power battery discharge capability and target driving power of a current vehicle in real time, and determining a starting power threshold value in real time according to a set power threshold value adjustment strategy; wherein the power threshold adjustment strategy associates the starting power threshold with the actual driving power; and if the discharging capacity of the power battery is smaller than the starting power threshold value and the target driving power is larger than the discharging capacity of the power battery, starting the range extender. Therefore, in the process that the discharging capacity of the power battery is relatively stable or gradually rises, the start-stop power threshold value is relatively small, and the battery life of pure electricity can be prolonged; when the discharging capacity of the power battery is rapidly reduced, the setting of the starting power threshold value is associated with the actual driving power of the vehicle in a past period of time, the abrupt feeling that power is suddenly weakened can be avoided, and the driving safety is improved.
