A modulation strategy for maximizing battery heating efficiency is provided. A system includes an inverter coupled to a high voltage battery and a motor. A control system is coupled to the inverter. The control system is configured to control the inverter to output a first current having a first triangular waveform to the motor, to output a second current having a second triangular waveform to the motor, and to output a third current to the motor. The first and second triangular waveforms are out of phase.
