The invention relates to a leak diagnostic system (4) and a method for an oil tank (3) of a vehicle (2), said leak diagnostic system comprising at least one first (5) and one second (6) connection point, each connection point being designed to be connected to said oil tank (3) or to be open to the environment (1); at least one diaphragm pump (7) designed to convey a fluid from the first connection point (5) to the second connection point (6); at least one ventilation valve (8) connected in parallel with the diaphragm pump (7) between the first connection point (5) and the second connection point (6) and designed to switch to a first position (8a) in which the first connection point (5) and the second connection point (6) are fluidly connected, and to switch to a second position (8b) in which the first connection point (5) and the second connection point (6) are fluidly connected, a second position (8b) which prevents a flow of fluid at least from the second connection point (6) to the first connection point (5), and at least one evaluation unit (9) which is designed to operate the diaphragm pump (7), switch the ventilation valve (8) to a second position (8b) and determine a pressure (curve) in the tank (3), in order to deduce from the pressure (curve) whether there is a leak in the tank. The evaluation unit (9) is designed to detect an electrical signal of the diaphragm pump (7), a pressure generated by the diaphragm pump (7), in particular by means of at least one pressure sensor (16, 17, 19), and to determine whether the diaphragm pump (7) is faulty by means of the electrical signal and the detected pressure.
