Systems and methods for implementing pairing of bidirectional tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) learning and authentication are disclosed. The random values may be used to determine test values and paired PINs by using an HMAC (Hash-based Message Authentication Code) function and a pre-shared key accessible to the TPMS sensor and the vehicle (e.g., its controller system). Random values and test values may be broadcast by a TPMS sensor and received by a vehicle. The vehicle may compute a pairing PIN using a random value and a pre-shared key.
