The invention relates to a method for checking a ground contact unit (12) of a charging infrastructure (12). The ground contact unit (18) has a plate-shaped main body (26) and a plurality of contacts (30) which are arranged on a charging surface (18) of the main body (26), against which the vehicle contact unit (16) can be placed. The method comprises the steps of:-performing a contact check in order to determine whether at least a subset of the plurality of contacts (30) of the ground contact unit (18) is contacted; -performing a protective conductor check in order to determine the contact quality by conducting a test current through at least one contact (30) of the plurality of contacts (30); and-performing a continuous touch protection monitoring of the contacts (30) in such a way that the switching positions of the contact switches (38) are continuously monitored, said switching positions being associated with power contacts (32) not belonging to a subset of the contacted contacts (30), and/or in such a way that the presence of contact of at least one contact (30) belonging to a subset of the contacted contacts (30) is continuously monitored, said contact positions being associated with power contacts (32) not belonging to a subset of the contacted contacts (30). And/or in such a way that a voltage measurement is carried out at at least one of the contacts (30). The invention further relates to a charging infrastructure (12).
