The invention relates to a method for starting an internal combustion engine (2) of a hybrid vehicle comprising a drive train (1) having: an internal combustion engine (2); a first electric machine (3) paired with the internal combustion engine and arranged for a motor mode and a generator mode; and a connectable electric drive machine (4). The method comprises the following steps/six steps: starting a starting process of the internal combustion engine (2) and/or accelerating the internal combustion engine (2) when the maximum battery power (PBattMax) minus the target power (P1) of the electric drive machine (4) corresponds to the power required by the first electric machine (3) for starting the internal combustion engine (2), and/or guiding the internal combustion engine (2) to switch from a push mode to a traction mode in a controlled manner, and/or increasing the torque of the internal combustion engine (2), and/or reducing the torque or keeping the torque reduction until the moment before the target rotational speed is reached, and/or slowing down the increase in the motor rotational speed of the internal combustion engine (2), and/or a target power of the first electric machine (3) is retrieved. The invention also relates to a computer-readable storage medium for carrying out said method and to a hybrid vehicle drivetrain (1) comprising at least one such computer-readable storage medium.
