The invention relates to a cowl latch interlock mechanism. An aircraft engine cowl includes a first cowl portion and a second cowl portion movable relative to each other. A cowl latch secures the first cowl portion and the second cowl portion in the closed position. The aircraft engine cowl also includes a deflection limiting strap and a deflection limiting latch movable between an engaged condition and a disengaged condition for the deflection limiting strap. An interlock mechanism prevents the cowl latch from disengaging when the deflection limiting latch is in the engaged condition. The interlock mechanism includes a locking element movable between a first position preventing separation of the cowl latch and a second position permitting separation of the cowl latch. The interlock mechanism also includes an indication paddle movable to contact the deflection limiting latch. A linkage assembly coordinates movement of the locking element with movement of the indicator paddle.
